The Tale of the Scale: An Odyssey of Invention by Solly Angel,

The Tale of the Scale: An Odyssey of Invention by Solly Angel,
In the mid-1980s, Solly Angel had a technological mini-vision. He saw in his mind's eye a quarter-inch thick personal scale weighing a pound--a travel scale--and he decided to make it a reality, to bring it to market. This is a rare first-person account of the process of invention and design as it unfolds in the remaking of the familiar bathroom scale.

In Tales From The Scale, author Erin J. Shea--creator of the immensely popular "Lose the Buddha" weight-loss blog--puts together the best rants of some of the most prominent diet bloggers online today, creating a raw, real, and radically different look at losing weight.

Weighing scale - A weighing scale (usually just "scale" in common usage) is a device using for measuring the weight of an object. These scales are often used to measure the weight of a person, and are also used in science to obtain the mass of an object, and in many industrial and commercial applications to determine the weight of things ranging from feathers to loaded tractor-trailers.

Letter scale - A letter scale is a weighing scale used for weighing letters in order to determine the correct amount of postage. Until the 1990s most letter scales were mechanical, but today electronic scales are the most common.

Spring scale - A spring scale (or spring balance) is a weighing scale often used to measure force, such as the force of gravity exerted on a mass or the force of a person's grip or the force exerted by a towing vehicle. This force is commonly measured in newtons or pounds-force.

Scale test car - A scale test car is a type of railroad car in maintenance of way service. Its purpose is to calibrate the weighing scales used to weigh loaded railroad cars.

Component Scale Weighing - Component Scale Weighing Uml Components Developers using component technologies such as COM+ component scale weighing and Enterprise JavaBeans need to be able to define component scale weighing and express specifications for their components. They can do so using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), whether or not the components are being implemented internally using object technology. However, they also need a simple process that ensures specifications relate correctly to requirements. Although originally conceived as a notation for object-oriented modeling, UML has ...
